Glencairn
-
About 4 1/2 inches high
Intended to hold 1.5 oz
Can hold up to 6 oz.
-
Glencairn Crystal, Ltd. in Scotland created these glasses for Whiskey (primarily Scotch) in 2001.
It’s based on traditional nosing glasses that were used for tasting in distilleries all over Scotland.
The slight curve in at the top holds and focuses the aromas of the drink. This helps with the nose as well as the taste.
-
While origianlly intended for Whiskey and Scotch, we have found this glass to be EXCELLENT for a wide variety of spirits
Footed Nick & Nora
Beercairn
-
This is a large variety of a glencairn
It holds about 10 oz if filled to the top (as for beer)
For neat spirit pours or samples, about 2 oz reaches the widest part of the bulb
-
We are not completely clear on the history of this glass.
We bought this as Sur La Table marketed as a whiskey glass
-
Although this was marketed as a whiskey glass, we would recommend this glass for beer as well
Wee Dram or Perfect Dram
-
This glass is about 3.5 inches tall
Holds 3 oz of liquid
The tulip shape helps to concentrate the aroma and the flavor
-
Sort of a miniature glencairn, this glass is designed after the Perfect Whisky Glass.
It’s been designed to hold a perfect dram plus some room for water, if that’s your preference
-
These are great for sampling different spirits in a smaller volume.
It will provide a different aromatic and taste in many cases - slightly more concentrated for both

Footed Martini
-
Holds about 8 oz
Steeper angle than most martini glasses
Thick base for stability
-
Introduced in 1925 as a modern approach to the Champagne Coupe
Originally designed with a long stem to control the temperature exchange with the beverage.
The shape was designed to allow the drink, gin for example, to express the bouquet easily
-
Can be used for cocktails such as the Martini
The steep sides are great for displaying garnishes
We usually use this for cocktails when we’re looking to maximize the aromatics
